Sonic Audit Specialist - French

Overview

Mercor is hiring native and near-native French speakers to audit AI training data in French. This is a fully remote independent contractor role with weekly payments via Stripe or Wise based on services rendered. The work involves careful listening and written judgment, not content creation. A short calibration phase is required before production work begins.

What You'll Do

• Audit multilingual transcription tasks by comparing audio to an existing transcript and deciding whether the transcript accurately reflects what was spoken.
• Apply the provided error codes, assign a pass/fail verdict, and write a short rationale for each decision.
• Review forced-alignment tasks by checking whether word-level audio segments and timestamps match the spoken word and reference transcript.
• Correct segmentation issues when needed, including adjusting boundaries, splitting, merging, adding, or removing segments.
• Tag all applicable errors when something is incorrect and explain the decision clearly in plain language.

Requirements

• Native or near-native French as spoken in France.
• Either born and raised in a region where this variety is dominant, or fully fluent with five or more years of residence in such a region.
• Strong English reading and writing skills, since the rulebook, error codes, and rationales are written in English.
• Ability to apply a written rubric consistently across many judgments.
• Careful listening skills, including the ability to distinguish similar sounds and identify word boundaries in continuous speech.

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior transcription, subtitling, localization, linguistic annotation, or QA experience.
• Prior AI data annotation or model evaluation work.
• Background in phonetics or linguistics.
• Experience with audio editing or waveform tools.

Contract & Payment Terms

• Independent contractor engagement.
• Fully remote and can be completed on your own schedule.
• Projects may be extended, shortened, or concluded early depending on needs and performance.
• Payments are made weekly on Stripe or Wise.
• H1-B and STEM OPT candidates are not supported at this time.
