Overview

Welocalize is looking for a Tech Linguistic Tester to proofread and edit localized content in a native language, translate some content from English when needed, and check user interfaces for functional issues. The role focuses on identifying language and content problems in software, mobile apps, and documentation, while following project-specific quality standards and testing instructions.

Responsibilities

  • Review localized content for grammar, typos, syntax, punctuation, capitalization, spacing, and other language-quality issues.
  • Translate content from English into the native language when required.
  • Check UIs for functional issues and report bugs and errors using the internal database or client-specific tracking tools.
  • Follow test cases and testing instructions accurately while QAing products.
  • Evaluate translations in the context of software, mobile apps, and documentation.
  • Research and resolve linguistic questions as the subject matter expert for the target language.
  • Adhere to client style guides, glossaries, trademarks, and quality standards.
  • Troubleshoot basic issues, communicate findings clearly, and escalate testing problems when needed.
  • Prioritize tasks efficiently and complete assigned work on time and at a high standard.

Requirements

  • Native-level or fully bilingual fluency in the required language(s), both spoken and written.
  • Strong English skills, written and verbal.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field, or equivalent education and experience.
  • 3+ years of professional translation and localization experience.
  • Up-to-date awareness of current technical language usage in the target language.
  • Experience with MS applications such as Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to navigate networks and websites using different browsers.
  • Basic knowledge of PC hardware, smartphones, and mobile operating systems.
  • Familiarity with Android and iOS.
  • Native country cultural awareness and familiarity with current trends.
  • Experience with consumer devices and with social media, including the Facebook family of apps.
  • Strong organization, problem-solving, and time management skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Localization, QA, or translation experience.
  • Advanced computer skills.
  • Experience working in fast-paced environments and managing multiple tasks.
