About this opportunity
Overview
Mercor is looking for senior mechanical engineering professionals to create evaluation tasks for AI systems used in Fortune 500 enterprise product design and manufacturing settings. The work is built around the complexity, safety requirements, and production scale common in large industrial environments.
Contributors will create enterprise mechanical engineering scenarios, draft reference outputs, and write rubrics that reflect how senior engineering leaders make decisions. Mercor notes that the role has two standards tracks: a US track based on ASME and an international track based on ISO, and candidates qualified for either or both are encouraged to apply.
What You'll Do
- Construct enterprise mechanical engineering scenarios covering complex product design cycles, multi-stakeholder design reviews, and manufacturing or regulatory certification processes.
- Build tasks related to product design, CAD modeling, thermal and fluid systems analysis, structural and stress analysis, manufacturing process engineering, and reliability or failure analysis.
- Develop scenarios using tools and systems such as SolidWorks, ANSYS, CATIA, MATLAB/Simulink, and enterprise PLM platforms including Siemens Teamcenter and PTC Windchill.
- Apply engineering methods such as FEA/CFD simulation, DFM/DFA principles, Six Sigma/DFSS, and GD&T under ASME Y14.5 or ISO GPS.
- Create reference design specifications, engineering analyses, and executive-level technical narratives.
- Write rubrics that distinguish authentic senior-level enterprise mechanical engineering judgment from textbook or coursework-level responses.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience as a mechanical engineer or engineering lead at a Fortune 500 or major industrial, automotive, aerospace, or manufacturing company.
- Direct ownership of large-scale product designs, manufacturing processes, or engineering certification programs.
- Strong familiarity with enterprise mechanical engineering tools and methods, including safety standards and regulatory certification processes such as ASME, ISO, FAA, and FDA.
- Understanding of cross-functional design governance in enterprise environments.
- Professional engineering credentials such as a US PE or an international equivalent like CEng or EUR ING are a plus.
- Prior experience writing rubrics, engineering training materials, or design documentation is a plus.
Contract Terms
- This is an independent contractor role.
- The work is fully remote and can be completed on your own schedule.
- Projects may be extended, shortened, or ended early depending on needs and performance.
- Work for Mercor will not involve access to confidential or proprietary information from any employer, client, or institution.
- Payments are made weekly on Stripe or Wise based on services rendered.
- H1-B and STEM OPT candidates are not supported at this time.
