About this opportunity
Overview
Mercor is seeking senior civil engineering professionals to create evaluation tasks for AI systems used in large-scale infrastructure and construction settings. The work focuses on projects with meaningful design complexity, public safety implications, and regulatory requirements.
This role includes both an International track, based on Eurocodes and ISO, and a US track, based on ASCE, ACI, AISC, and AASHTO standards. Applicants qualified in either track, or both, are encouraged to apply.
What You'll Do
- Design civil engineering scenarios covering major infrastructure design cycles, permitting and regulatory review, and complex construction management or public works workflows.
- Create tasks across structural design and analysis, transportation and highway engineering, water resources and environmental engineering, geotechnical engineering, and construction project management.
- Develop engineering scenarios using tools such as AutoCAD Civil 3D, Revit, STAAD.Pro/ETABS, HEC-RAS, and enterprise project management platforms used on major infrastructure programs.
- Apply civil engineering methods such as structural load analysis, geotechnical site assessment, and hydrology/hydraulic modeling to the relevant standards track.
- Produce reference design plans, engineering calculations, and technical narratives for stakeholders and regulators.
- Write rubrics that distinguish strong civil engineering judgment from generic textbook-level or coursework-level responses.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience working as a civil engineer or engineering lead.
- Direct ownership of large-scale infrastructure designs, permitting processes, or construction project delivery.
- Strong fluency in civil engineering tools and methods.
- Understanding of regulatory approvals, environmental review processes such as NEPA or an international equivalent, and public agency oversight.
- A professional engineering credential is strongly preferred, such as a US PE or an international equivalent like CEng, EUR ING, or P.Eng.
- Prior experience with rubric writing, engineering training curricula, or design documentation authoring is a plus.
Contract Terms
- This is an independent contractor role.
- The work is fully remote and can be completed on your own schedule.
- Projects may be extended, shortened, or concluded early depending on needs and performance.
- Payments are made weekly on Stripe or Wise based on services rendered.
- Mercor notes that it is unable to support H1-B or STEM OPT candidates at this time.
- The work will not involve access to confidential or proprietary information from any employer, client, or institution.
