About this opportunity
Overview
Mercor is hiring a Technical Writer for an hourly contract role focused on evaluating paired AI-generated developer-facing writing. The work centers on reviewing outputs such as CLI help text, error messages, and API reference documentation against a client brief and writing guide, then choosing the stronger sample or flagging cases that are tied or not suitable to judge. The pilot is expected to run 5 hours per day, 5 business days, and may ramp into an ongoing month-to-month engagement.
What You’ll Do
- Review paired AI-generated developer-facing writing against a task brief and writing guide.
- Read diffs and terminal output carefully enough to catch incorrect technical explanations.
- Select a preferred sample, or flag a tie or an item that is not suitable to judge.
- Write a concise one-line rationale for your verdict.
- Apply tags that support the decision.
- Complete a calibration gate using a known-answer test set before moving to live data.
Requirements
- Experience leading developer documentation at a major tech company, especially in cloud platforms, API-first products, or developer tools.
- Comfort writing or evaluating CLI help, error messages, and API reference documentation.
- Prior experience rating AI-generated writing is a strong plus.
Contract & Engagement
- This is an independent contractor role.
- The work is fully remote and can be completed on your own schedule.
- Projects may be extended, shortened, or concluded early depending on needs and performance.
- Payments are made weekly on Stripe or Wise based on services rendered.
