Overview
Mercor is hiring a News & Copy Editor for a fully remote hourly contract role. The work involves reviewing paired AI-generated news and copywriting against a task brief and writing guide, then choosing the preferred sample and adding a brief rationale and tags. The initial pilot is scheduled for 5 hours per day, 5 business days, with the possibility of continuing into an ongoing month-to-month engagement.
What You’ll Do
- Review paired AI-generated news/copy writing against the task brief and writing guide.
- Evaluate drafts for factual accuracy, hedging, and buried leads.
- Select the stronger sample and provide a one-line reason.
- Apply the appropriate tags.
- Clear the calibration gate before moving into live data work.
Requirements
- Desk or copy editing experience at a major news organization.
- Ability to cut copy to the point quickly and work to deadline.
- Strong ability to spot factual slips and buried leads on first read.
Contract Terms
- Independent contractor engagement.
- Fully remote and can be completed on your own schedule.
- Projects may be extended, shortened, or concluded early depending on needs and performance.
- Work does not involve access to confidential or proprietary information from any employer, client, or institution.
- Payments are made weekly on Stripe or Wise based on services rendered.
- H1-B and STEM OPT candidates are not supported at this time.
