Sonic Audit Specialist - Spanish

Overview

Mercor is hiring native and near-native Spanish speakers to audit AI training data in Spanish, with a focus on Spanish as spoken in Spain. This is a fully remote independent contractor role paid hourly, with work completed on your own schedule.

The role covers two Amazon Sonic audit collections: multilingual transcription audit and forced alignment audit. In both cases, you will review audio, apply a fixed rubric, and write a short written rationale for each judgment. The work is careful listening and rule-based review rather than high-volume production.

What You'll Do

• Listen to recordings of human or agent speech and compare them against transcriptions prepared by annotators.
• Decide whether the transcription accurately reflects what was said and assign a pass or fail verdict.
• Apply the appropriate error codes when transcription issues are present and explain your reasoning clearly.
• Review word-level segmented audio for forced alignment tasks and verify timestamp boundaries against the spoken words.
• Correct alignment issues by adjusting boundaries, splitting or merging segments, adding missing segments, or removing segments with no spoken word.
• Complete a short calibration phase before starting production work.

Who They're Looking For

• Native or near-native command of Spanish as spoken in Spain.
• Either born and raised in a region where this variety is dominant, or fully fluent with five or more years of residence in such a region.
• Strong English reading and writing ability, since the conventions, error codes, and rationales are provided in English.
• Ability to apply a written rubric consistently across many judgments.
• Careful listening skills, including distinguishing similar sounds and identifying word boundaries in continuous speech.
• Ability to tell genuine acoustic ambiguity apart from clear annotator error.
• Helpful but not required: prior AI data annotation or model evaluation work, a phonetics or linguistics background, and experience with audio editing or waveform tools.

Contract and Payment Terms

• Independent contractor engagement.
• Fully remote work completed on your own schedule.
• Projects may be extended, shortened, or concluded early depending on needs and performance.
• Payments are made weekly on Stripe or Wise based on services rendered.
• Mercor notes that it cannot support H1-B or STEM OPT candidates at this time.
