About this opportunity
Overview
Mercor is hiring native and near-native Brazilian Portuguese speakers to audit AI training data in their own language. This is a fully remote independent contractor role with weekly payments and work that can be completed on your own schedule.
The work spans two Amazon Sonic audit collections: Multilingual Transcription Audit and Forced Alignment Audit. Both collections run at 5.00 audit hours per task, and each judgment requires a written rationale. A short calibration phase is completed before production work begins.
What You'll Do
- Listen to recordings of human or agent speech and review the accompanying transcription for accuracy.
- Apply the relevant error codes, decide whether the item passes or fails, and write a short explanation of the decision.
- Review word-level audio segments and verify that timestamps match the actual speech.
- Correct timing or segmentation issues by adjusting boundaries, splitting or merging segments, adding missing segments, or removing empty ones.
- Use the written rubric consistently across many judgments and call out critical errors clearly in your rationale.
Requirements
- Native or near-native Portuguese as spoken in Brazil.
- Either born and raised in a region where Brazilian Portuguese is dominant, or fully fluent with at least five years of residence in such a region.
- Strong English reading and writing skills, since conventions, error codes, and audit rationales are written in English.
- Ability to apply a detailed rubric consistently across a large number of judgments.
- Careful listening skills, including the ability to distinguish similar sounds and identify word boundaries in continuous speech.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior transcription, subtitling, localization, linguistic annotation, or QA experience.
- Prior AI data annotation or model evaluation experience.
- Background in phonetics or linguistics.
- Experience with audio editing or waveform tools.
Contract and Payment Terms
- Independent contractor engagement.
- Fully remote work on your own schedule.
- Projects may be extended, shortened, or concluded early depending on needs and performance.
- Payments are made weekly on Stripe or Wise based on services rendered.
- Mercor notes that H1-B and STEM OPT candidates cannot be supported at this time.
