Sonic Audit Specialist - Korean

Overview

Mercor is hiring native and near-native Korean speakers to audit AI training data in Korean rather than create it. This is a fully remote independent contractor role focused on careful listening, rule-based review, and written feedback. Work is organized around two Amazon Sonic audit collections, with weekly payments via Stripe or Wise based on services rendered.

What You'll Do

• Audit multilingual transcription tasks by listening to audio, reviewing an existing transcription, and deciding whether it accurately reflects what was said.
• Apply the provided error codes, assign a pass/fail verdict, and write a short rationale for each decision.
• Review forced-alignment tasks where audio has already been segmented at the word level.
• Check whether timestamps match the true word boundaries and whether the reference transcription matches the spoken form.
• Correct mistakes by adjusting boundaries, splitting or merging segments, adding missing segments, or removing empty ones.
• Tag all applicable errors when something is wrong and explain clearly why a task passes or fails.
• Complete a short calibration phase before starting production work.

Requirements

• Native or near-native command of Korean as spoken in South Korea.
• Either born and raised in a region where this variety is dominant, or fully fluent with five or more years of residence in such a region.
• Strong English reading and writing ability, since the rulebook, conventions, error codes, and rationales are written in English.
• Ability to apply a written rubric consistently across many judgments.
• Careful listening skills, including the ability to distinguish similar sounds and identify word boundaries in continuous speech.

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior transcription, subtitling, localization, linguistic annotation, or QA experience.
• Prior AI data annotation or model evaluation work.
• Background in phonetics or linguistics.
• Experience with audio editing or waveform tools.

Contract and Payment Terms

• This is an independent contractor position.
• The work is fully remote and can be completed on your own schedule.
• Projects may be extended, shortened, or concluded early depending on needs and performance.
• Mercor states that work on this project will not involve access to confidential or proprietary information from any employer, client, or institution.
• H1-B and STEM OPT candidates are not supported at this time.
