Sonic Audit Specialist - Italian

Overview

Mercor is hiring native and near-native Italian speakers to audit AI training data in Italian. This is a fully remote independent contractor role with work completed on your own schedule. The work includes a short calibration phase before production begins, and payments are made weekly on Stripe or Wise based on services rendered.

The role focuses on careful listening and written judgment, not content creation. Applicants should be able to apply a written rubric consistently, read the rulebook in English, and produce clear rationales for pass/fail decisions.

What You'll Do

• Review multilingual transcription audits by listening to audio, checking an existing transcription, and deciding whether it accurately reflects what was spoken.
• Apply the specified error codes, assign pass/fail outcomes, and write brief explanations for each decision.
• Review forced-alignment audits by checking word-level timestamps and the reference transcription against the audio.
• Correct alignment issues when needed by adjusting boundaries, splitting or merging segments, adding missing segments, or removing segments with no spoken word.
• Tag all applicable errors and explain the reasoning clearly, with critical errors identified first.

Requirements

• Native or near-native command of Italian as spoken in Italy.
• Either born and raised in a region where Italian is dominant, or fully fluent with at least five years of residence in such a region.
• Strong English reading and writing skills, since conventions, error codes, and rationales are written in English.
• Ability to apply a rubric carefully and consistently across many judgments.
• Careful listening skills, including the ability to distinguish similar sounds and identify word boundaries in continuous speech.

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior transcription, subtitling, localization, linguistic annotation, or QA experience.
• Prior AI data annotation or model evaluation experience.
• Background in phonetics or linguistics.
• Experience with audio editing or waveform tools.
