Overview
Mercor is hiring native or near-native Hindi speakers to audit AI training data in Hindi. This is remote, hourly contract work focused on reviewing existing audio and transcriptions rather than creating new content. The role includes a short calibration phase before production work begins.
Work is split across two Amazon Sonic audit collections:
- Multilingual Transcription Audit: review audio, compare it with an annotator’s transcription, assign the appropriate error codes, decide pass or fail, and write a brief rationale.
- Forced Alignment Audit: check word-level audio segmentation, verify timestamp accuracy and transcription matching, and correct boundaries or segmentation issues when needed.
Each task runs at 5.00 audit hours, and the work emphasizes careful judgment and written explanations over high-volume output.
What You'll Do
- Listen to speech recordings and compare them against provided transcriptions.
- Apply the correct audit rules and error codes consistently.
- Mark tasks as pass or fail and explain the decision in plain language.
- Review forced-alignment outputs for boundary, segmentation, and transcript accuracy.
- Correct timestamps, split or merge segments, add missing segments, or remove incorrect ones when necessary.
- Complete a calibration phase before moving into production work.
Requirements
- Native or near-native command of Hindi as spoken in India.
- Either born and raised in a region where this variety is dominant, or fully fluent with five or more years of residence in such a region.
- Strong English reading and writing ability.
- Ability to read a detailed rulebook and write clear audit rationales in English.
- Disciplined, consistent application of written standards across many judgments.
- Careful listening skills and the ability to distinguish genuine ambiguity from transcription or segmentation errors.
Preferred Experience
- Prior transcription, subtitling, localization, linguistic annotation, or QA experience.
- Prior AI data annotation or model evaluation work.
- Background in phonetics or linguistics.
- Experience with audio editing or waveform tools.
Contract and Payment Terms
- Independent contractor engagement.
- Fully remote and completed on your own schedule.
- Projects may be extended, shortened, or concluded early depending on needs and performance.
- Payments are made weekly on Stripe or Wise based on services rendered.
- The role will not involve access to confidential or proprietary information from any employer, client, or institution.
