About this opportunity
Overview
micro1 is hiring a fully remote contractor for a PhD Scientist role focused on STEM expertise. This opportunity is designed for researchers who can create technically rigorous problems from their own field of study, define what a correct answer looks like, and evaluate whether another researcher would reach the same conclusion.
Applicants should have a completed PhD in a STEM field and hands-on research experience. The work is flexible and can fit alongside your current role.
What You'll Do
- Design difficult technical problems based on your own research area, using realistic constraints and supporting data.
- Provide the correct solution and explain the reasoning behind it.
- Set objective standards for correctness so another researcher can independently verify the result.
- Review problems created by other contributors for technical accuracy and sound methodology.
- Identify and flag problems that are ambiguous or cannot be graded reliably.
Requirements
- Completed PhD in a STEM field; this is a hard requirement.
- Hands-on research experience based on your own work.
- Wet lab, research lab, or academic experience is strongly preferred.
- Ability to explain and justify answers clearly enough for another researcher to verify them.
- Publications or demonstrated research contributions are a strong plus.
- Prior AI training or evaluation project experience is a plus, but not required.
Selection Process
- Apply and complete the screening questions.
- Complete the AI interview for the role.
- Profile review.
- Onboarding with the Talent Ops team.
