Music & Sound Annotation Expert – AI Training

Job Description

Micro1 is hiring Music & Sound Annotation Experts for a project focused on music, audio understanding, and AI training.

You’ll listen to short real-world field recordings and document exactly what you hear—including instruments, tempo, musical key, background sounds, and crowd reactions. Later stages of the project will involve evaluating AI-generated descriptions against the actual audio.

This opportunity is particularly suited to musicians, producers, audio engineers, music educators, and other professionals with strong analytical listening skills.

What You’ll Do

• Listen to 30–90 second field recordings and complete structured audio annotations.
• Identify instruments present in recordings.
• Determine musical tempo and key.
• Timestamp background events such as traffic, sirens, applause, or other environmental sounds.
• Compare recordings of the same song captured at different locations and identify similarities and differences.
• In later project phases, evaluate AI-generated descriptions and identify information that is correct, incorrect, or invented.
• Provide brief, evidence-based written explanations for your evaluations.
• Attend a paid onboarding/calibration session and short weekly sync.

Requirements

• 3+ years of hands-on music or audio experience.
• Strong analytical listening skills, including the ability to distinguish individual instruments in noisy, real-world recordings.
• Ability to identify musical tempo within a few BPM.
• Ability to identify musical key; relative pitch with a reference is acceptable.
• Comfortable completing detailed and repetitive annotation tasks using a web-based platform.
• Clear written English for short structured notes.
• Quality headphones and a quiet workspace.
• Reliable internet connection.
• Availability for 20–25 hours per week.
