About this opportunity
Overview
micro1 is engaging Mechanical Engineering Technicians to contribute to a customer project focused on developing advanced AI benchmarks. The work is remote, contractor-based, and designed for experts with real-world mechanical engineering domain knowledge. No prior AI experience is required.
Scope of Work
- Design authentic technician workflow tasks that reflect real engineering challenges, including test setup, instrumentation, data collection, and failure diagnosis.
- Source, synthesize, and build technical datasets from real lab or production scenarios, such as test logs, calibration records, sensor outputs, and failure reports.
- Define correct solution paths, including how to interpret test data and recommend next steps.
- Create rigorous grading rubrics with 35+ items to assess instrumentation logic, data interpretation, and failure analysis for both AI systems and domain experts.
- Document procedures, observations, and diagnostic findings with high precision and clarity.
- Ensure evaluation tasks reflect professional-level complexity and realism, rather than simplified textbook examples.
Preferred Qualifications
- At least 4 years of hands-on experience in lab, test, or production environments within mechanical engineering technology.
- Associate degree or recognized trade credential in mechanical engineering technology or a related field.
- Experience with instrumentation, sensors, data acquisition systems, and prototype testing workflows.
- Strong technical documentation skills for test procedures, outcomes, and failure modes.
- Ability to analyze complex datasets and diagnose equipment or process failures.
- Familiarity with technical documentation formats such as CSVs, spreadsheets, PDFs, and similar files.
- Comfort working independently on remote projects and meeting high technical standards.
Compensation
Compensation is output-based and paid per task that meets project specifications. Minimum submission requirements apply, and the amount of work may vary based on experience and workflow.
