Senior Software Engineer

Overview

micro1 is seeking Senior Software Engineers to help train next-generation AI systems. This is a contractor role at about 15 hours per week, with flexible scheduling and remote work. The work focuses on creating realistic, challenging coding tasks for AI to solve, then building deterministic verifiers that accept valid solutions and reject invalid ones.

The role is output-based: experts are paid per task that meets the project specifications. Minimum submission requirements apply, and selected experts are expected to begin their first tasks within 24–48 hours after onboarding. The hiring process includes screening questions, an AI interview, a tentative technical assessment, and hiring manager review.

What You'll Do

• Create coding tasks involving feature implementation and bug fixes for AI systems to solve.
• Build deterministic verifiers that evaluate solutions against project specifications.
• Use your engineering judgment to assess whether a submitted solution is reasonable and valid.
• Contribute through high-quality, real-world coding work that helps improve model performance.

Requirements

• Strong backend experience in one or more of: Java, Node.js, Go, Rust, TypeScript, Python, or C++.
• Experience building scalable services and APIs.
• Comfort with debugging, performance optimization, and automated testing.
• Solid code review instincts.
• Ability to work without outside assistance during interviews, assessments, and project work.

Preferred Qualifications

• Cybersecurity or SecOps experience, including secure coding, appsec, pentesting, vulnerability assessment, OWASP/CWE, or security-focused reviews.
• Background in backend development with a record of delivering high-quality, performant work.
• Experience identifying and resolving software bugs and system bottlenecks.
• Experience with codebase refactoring and implementing complex features in large-scale applications.
• Strong understanding of algorithms, data structures, and core computer science concepts.
