About this opportunity
Overview
Mercor is seeking senior mechanical engineering professionals to review evaluation tasks for AI systems used in Fortune 500 enterprise product design and manufacturing settings. The work is calibrated to the design complexity, safety requirements, and production scale typical of Fortune 500 and large industrial manufacturers.
This role covers two standards tracks: a US track based on ASME and an international track based on ISO. Candidates who are qualified in either or both tracks are encouraged to apply.
What You'll Do
- Review mechanical engineering tasks, reference outputs, and supporting materials for technical accuracy, realism, and professional-level complexity.
- Check engineering calculations, design assumptions, analyses, and conclusions against the applicable standards track.
- Review design documentation and relevant CAD or simulation evidence to spot errors, omissions, and inconsistent assumptions.
- Evaluate grading rubrics for clarity, specificity, and whether they distinguish sound professional engineering judgment from generic textbook recall.
- Provide clear written feedback and verify that revisions address the issues identified.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience working as a mechanical engineer or engineering lead at a Fortune 500 or major industrial, automotive, aerospace, or manufacturing company.
- Direct ownership of large-scale product designs, manufacturing processes, or engineering certification programs.
- Strong familiarity with enterprise mechanical engineering tools and methods.
- Understanding of safety standards, regulatory certification processes such as ASME, ISO, FAA, and FDA, and cross-functional design governance.
- A professional engineering credential such as a US PE or an international equivalent like CEng or EUR ING is preferred, and prior rubric, engineering-training curriculum, or design documentation authorship is a plus.
- Applicants must be eligible to work as independent contractors; H1-B and STEM OPT candidates are not supported for this role.
Contract Details
- This is an independent contractor role.
