Big Data Engineer

Job Description

micro1 is hiring 50 Big Data Engineers for a remote contractor opportunity supporting the development and training of next-generation AI systems.

You’ll apply your data engineering expertise to build and maintain scalable data infrastructure, process large datasets, optimize distributed systems, and support high-quality real-world data workflows.

What You’ll Do

• Design, build, and maintain scalable big data pipelines and architectures.
• Develop data integration, transformation, and processing solutions using Python and big data technologies.
• Manage and optimize distributed databases and storage systems.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand data requirements and business objectives.
• Monitor and troubleshoot data systems to maintain reliability and performance.
• Implement appropriate data quality, security, and governance standards.
• Document technical solutions and communicate complex concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Requirements

• Proven professional experience in big data engineering and large-scale data pipelines.
• Advanced proficiency in Python for data processing, automation, and integration.
• Strong understanding of relational and NoSQL databases.
• Experience with distributed processing technologies such as Hadoop, Spark, or Flink.
• Strong knowledge of data modeling, ETL processes, and data warehousing.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work independently in a remote environment.
• Strong attention to detail and a proactive approach to technical problems.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working in fast-paced or startup-like environments.
• Experience supporting distributed or global teams.
• Familiarity with cloud data platforms such as AWS, Google Cloud Platform, or Microsoft Azure.
• Familiarity with machine learning operations or data science workflows is a plus.

Contract & Compensation

This is a remote contractor opportunity with 50 openings.

Compensation is advertised at $30–$80 per hour.
