Overview
micro1 is seeking Backend Security Engineers for a remote contractor role focused on helping train next-generation AI systems. The work is estimated at about 15 hours per week, with a flexible schedule and the ability to choose your hours and days, including weekends if desired. There are 300 openings listed for this opportunity.
What You'll Do
- Create realistic, interesting, and challenging coding tasks for AI systems to solve, especially around feature implementation and bug fixing.
- Build deterministic verifiers that accept valid solutions and reject incorrect ones.
- Apply backend engineering expertise to support high-quality, real-world input for model training.
- Use security-oriented judgment when reviewing code and designing tasks, where applicable.
Requirements
- Strong backend experience in one or more of the following: Java, Node.js, Go, Rust, TypeScript, Python, C++, or similar.
- Experience building scalable services and APIs.
- Comfort with debugging, performance work, and automated testing.
- Strong code review instincts.
- Security or SecOps experience is a plus, including secure coding, application security, pentesting, vulnerability assessment, OWASP/CWE familiarity, or security-focused reviews.
Preferred Qualifications
- Proven backend development experience delivering high-quality, performant projects.
- Experience identifying and resolving software bugs and system bottlenecks.
- Experience with codebase refactoring and implementing complex features in large-scale applications.
- Strong understanding of algorithms, data structures, and foundational computer science concepts.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and technical communication skills.
Process
- Apply and complete the screening questions.
- Complete an AI interview of approximately 30 minutes.
- Complete a technical assessment, if required.
- Undergo hiring manager review.
Availability
Selected experts are expected to start their first tasks within 24 to 48 hours after onboarding.
Compensation
Compensation is output-based and paid per task that meets project specifications. A minimum number of tasks must be submitted each week.
