Research Analyst - Advanced Math

Overview

Turing is hiring a remote Research Analyst - Advanced Math to support projects that help fine-tune large language models. The work centers on analytical reasoning, English comprehension, mathematical problem-solving, and explaining solutions clearly so models can learn from them. This role is offered as a contractor/freelancer assignment and is expected to start next week.

Applicants should be prepared to work on a mix of analytical questions, scenario creation, and research-based validation tasks. The role includes some overlap with PST / UTC-8:00 and requires reliable internet access and a desktop or laptop for collaboration and mathematical work.

What You'll Do

• Answer analytical questions and create scenarios that help train and improve LLMs.
• Read, summarize, and break down content into smaller logical pieces.
• Research information online and validate claims made in content.
• Solve math-based reasoning problems and explain the correct answer step by step.
• Work with LLMs on puzzle-like tasks and other analytical exercises.
• Produce clear written explanations that help models learn from the solution process.

Requirements

• Strong English reading and writing comprehension.
• Solid mathematical ability at the high school or college level, including algebra, geometry, trigonometry, and calculus.
• Strong problem-solving ability and a systematic approach to complex questions.
• Ability to explain mathematical concepts in clear, understandable steps.
• Ability to manage time effectively and meet deadlines.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Flexibility to work across different math problem types and learner needs.
• Ability to work full-time at 40 hours per week, with a minimum commitment of 20 hours per week and at least 4 hours of overlap with PST.
• Desktop or laptop with reliable internet connection and the software needed for mathematical computation and online collaboration.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Engineering, Physics, or a related field, though candidates with exceptional math skills without a formal degree are also welcome.
• Experience tutoring or teaching mathematics at the high school, Engineering Entrance Exam, or Engineering College level.
• Familiarity with standardized test formats and requirements for Engineering Entrance Exam or Engineering College level.
• Knowledge of mathematical tools such as LaTeX or Google Colab.

Engagement Details

• Fully remote work.

• Time commitment options: 20, 30, or 40 hours per week.
• Required overlap: 4 hours with PST, with some overlap to UTC-8:00 / America/Los_Angeles.

Evaluation Process

• Automated analytical challenge: approximately 30 minutes.
• Business writing assessment in English: approximately 30 minutes.
• Language proficiency assessment: approximately 20 minutes.
• Total process time: approximately 80 to 90 minutes.
