Overview
SME Careers is hiring an English Language Expert for an hourly, remote contractor role focused on reviewing AI-generated English responses and creating expert language content to improve model quality. This role is tied to AI training work for large AI companies and foundation-model labs, with an interview required before starting.
What You'll Do
- Review AI-generated English-language responses and judge their accuracy, clarity, and fit with the prompt.
- Provide precise, actionable feedback on reasoning, logic, meaning, methodology, and conceptual understanding.
- Fact-check information when needed and explain corrections clearly.
- Write high-quality revisions and explanations that demonstrate correct methods.
- Rate and compare multiple AI responses based on correctness and reasoning quality.
- Create detailed prompts and responses on different topics to support AI training.
- Evaluate and rank responses to help improve accuracy, fluency, and contextual relevance.
- Test AI models for inaccuracies or bias and assess reliability across use cases.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Linguistics, English, Translation/Localization, Communications, Journalism, or a related field.
- Strong command of English, with minimum C1 proficiency required; C2 or native-level is preferred.
- Professional proficiency in at least one additional language is strongly preferred.
- Strong knowledge of grammar, syntax, semantics, pragmatics, discourse structure, and stylistic editing.
- Ability to spot meaning drift, ambiguity, inconsistencies, and subtle errors, and explain corrections clearly in writing.
- Comfort working with style guides and maintaining consistency in tone, terminology, punctuation, and capitalization.
- Reliable, self-directed, and able to work consistently in an hourly remote contractor workflow across time zones.
- Previous experience in AI data training/annotation, editorial QA, localization QA, or professional copyediting is strongly preferred.
- Hands-on experience with tools such as Perplexity, Gemini, ChatGPT, and similar tools.
