Chemistry Expert

Overview

Rex is looking for chemists to help train and evaluate AI models on chemical reasoning. The work centers on designing rigorous chemistry questions, reviewing model answers for scientific accuracy, and producing reference responses with clear justification. Available in all countries.

What You'll Do

• Design chemistry questions that are rigorous and relevant to the domain.
• Review AI responses for scientific accuracy, logical consistency, and chemical validity.
• Write reference responses with clear justification, including reaction mechanisms, experimental design, and data interpretation.
• Review chemistry data, questions, and solutions from other experts for accuracy and completeness.
• Identify errors in model reasoning and explain the correct approach.
• Provide structured written feedback aligned with current best practices.
• Participate in calibration and review sessions and apply feedback to maintain consistent quality.

Requirements

• PhD, doctoral candidate, or postdoc in chemistry or a closely related field, or a master’s degree plus 4+ years of professional experience.
• Strong grounding in core chemistry subdisciplines, including organic, inorganic, physical, analytical, and computational chemistry.
• Excellent written English.
• Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and perform reliably in a remote setting.

Preferred Qualifications

• Publications, peer-review experience, or curriculum-development experience.
• Prior AI or data annotation experience.
• Experience writing for a non-specialist audience.

Content Restrictions

• Do not write, request, or submit synthesis routes, formulations, quantities, or operational details for chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, or explosive weapons, or for illicit drugs.
• If a task, model output, or guideline contains such content, stop, do not reproduce it, and report it to the project team.
• Safety-related answers must stay at the level of general hazard awareness and appropriate safety practice.

Legal and Compliance

• All submitted content must be lawful, and you must have the right to share it.
• Do not submit confidential or proprietary material belonging to an employer, client, or third party, or personal data without a lawful basis.
• Rex may verify identity, credentials, ownership, and licensing, and may reject or remove submissions that do not comply.
• Engagement and payment are subject to verification and applicable sanctions, export-control, tax, and employment laws.
• The contractor agreement will define ownership and licence terms for delivered work.
